Crossfield Pete Knight Days 2008
Liz Lindgren-Kubitz

Warm weather, sunshine and community spirit were the perfect mix for Crossfield’s annual Pete Knight Days celebrations on June 20 and 21.

The community doesn’t forget its legendary cowboy, Pete Knight, who competed when the Stampede was still young and made his home town proud. Each year a rodeo and celebrations in the hero’s name are held, giving way to the birth of many more successful cowboys from Crossfield, as the legend continues.

FCA Rodeo performances kicked off at 7 p.m. on Friday night, followed by a rodeo dance at Pete’s Bar and Grill and music by Jo Hikk. A fireworks display lit up the night sky above the town at 11 p.m.

The local Agricultural Society hosted a pancake breakfast at the Pete Knight arena on Saturday morning before the parade boomed down Main Street.

Although not as many entries were in this year’s parade compared to last year’s centennial celebration, a good time was had by all. One of the many unique entries this year included a local youth band called Storm who belted out tunes from the back of a flatbed truck. FCA rodeo performances continued Saturday afternoon with stock provided by Richard’s Rodeo Stock.

A demolition derby began to roar at 5 p.m. and wrapped up in time for a second rodeo dance at Pete’s Bar and Grill to bring this year’s celebration to a close.
